Commercial Style Espresso Machines

There are four basic types of espresso machine, manual, semi-automatic, automatic and fully or super automatic. The super automatic machine will grind, pack, brew and eject the grounds. Some even add frothed milk and those are called one-step machines.

An automatic machine will measure the length of pour and stop it automatically, but the operator still grinds and packs the grounds. A semi-automatic machine is nearly identical to an automatic, but the operator must manually start and stop the pour requiring more attention and skill. With a manual machine the barista uses a lever style arm to start and stop the pour. While it has a charming European look, is may not be a good choice for high volume production.
