  • Removal of the DLL files by mistake.

  • Malware infection.

Examples of Missing DLL Error Messages

Now, let’s get familiar with some of the common error messages that may appear on your screen when a DLL file goes missing:

  • msvbvm60.dll” not found
  • The file “msvcr80.dll” is missing

Steps to Resolve Missing DLL Errors:

To fix DLL errors that occur due to a missing DLL file, you need to get a new copy of that DLL file and save it to its default location.

However, you must first ensure that a malware infection is not the cause behind the missing DLL error. Malware programs often modify, misplace, or delete important files and cause recurring DLL errors, such as msvbm60.dll and msvcr80.dll errors. To identify and remove malware, run a malware scan using advanced antivirus, and antispyware tools. In case your PC is reported to be clean and free from infection, move to the next step of procuring the missing DLL file.

Depending upon the reason for the missing DLL file, you may use any of the following methods to procure the missing DLL file and resolve DLL errors:

  • Use a reliable file recovery tool – If you accidentally deleted the DLL file and also removed it from your Recycle Bin, you may use an efficient file recovery tool to recover the lost DLL file.
  • Download the missing DLL file from the Internet – This is the most convenient way of replacing the DLL file. However, words of caution before you download the missing DLL file from a web site, always check the authenticity of the site.
  • Reinstall the application – Uninstall and then reinstall the application with which you are getting the missing DLL error. When you install an application again, all the files that the application requires are also installed.
  • Extract the missing DLL file from the Windows installation CD – If the DLL file in question is a Windows file, you may extract a copy of the missing DLL file from your Windows installation disc.
