Install a Gable Vent Fan

Gable vent fans are thermostatically controlled fans installed in the attic behind a gable vent. A fan can also be installed through the roof. Both types are called attic fans. When the attic temperature exceeds a preset temperature, the fan turns on and vents the attic's hot air to the outside. Cooler air from the outside is drawn into the attic through other roof, gable and soffit vents.

An attic can easily reach 130 degrees during a summer day. This hot air can both trap the warm air inside your house and heat the ceiling, warming the interior space even more. By operating an attic fan the attic temperature can be reduced by 30 to 50 degrees.

The reduction in attic temperature will make your home more comfortable and reduce cooling costs. For more information read about attic fans.

This list is provided for your convenience, it is not a comprehensive list of every maintenance item your home may require.
