Install Gutter Guards Now

Before the leaves start to fall and before the rain starts, this is the time to install rain gutter leaf and debris guards. These shield the gutter from becoming filled by falling leaves.

A rain gutter clogged with debris will not allow water to properly drain off the roof and be directed away from the home and its foundation. The resulting water damage can be serious after only a very few years.

Even if you install gutter guards, you must still inspect and clean the gutters every season, although the task should be much easier because of the reduced build up of debris.

Time for Fall lawn fertilizing. Despite common belief to the contrary, leading authorities say Fall is the most important time of year for lawn care. Weeds can be preempted, soil amended, thatch prevented and lawn prepped to weather the winter.

Inspect your roof for damaged or missing shingles. Roof shingles can crack, curl, lose their protective covering or get blown off the roof. Finding those damaged and missing shingles now can save you time, trouble and money instead of waiting for a roof leak.

Stand at a distance from your home and inspect the roof using a pair of binoculars. This is far safer than climbing up on the roof, plus walking on shingles just increases the risk of damage. If you can't get a good view of the roof, call a roofer out to do an inspection. It will be easier to get them out now than when it is pouring down rain and water is leaking into your house.
